NOTE: This a is four-day training. Participants should be in attendance all four days.

Description: A Collaborative Learning Experience presented by Steve Seward, Associate Director MASSP Adaptive Schools develops the collective identity and capacity of organization members as collaborators and inquirers. In the four-day Adaptive Schools Foundation Seminar, participants gain:

  • An increased capacity to initiate, develop and sustain high functioning groups
  • New lenses for diagnosing the stages and phases of group development
  • An expanded repertoire of practical facilitation tools
  • Understandings of when and how to engage groups in dialogue and discussion, the limitations, forms and values of each
  • Skills to move groups beyond consensus to common focus
  • Ways to value and use dissension, argument and conflict
  • Strategies for keeping group members on track, on topic, energized and resourceful

Date: February 26 & 27; June 10 & 11, 2019

Time: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm

Cost: $150 registration and $40 for the Adaptive Schools Learning Guide that will be used during the training.

MASSP will be offering SCECHs for this four-day training.

This 4-part series examines the connections between spatial (geographic) thinking and its integration with the disciplines of history, civics, and economics using the context of Michigan studies (post-statehood) and a regional approach of fundamental concepts organized by topic or issue. Comprehensive curricular units that include research-based instructional strategies for teaching spatial thinking through the Arc of Inquiry, hands-on activities, literacy strategies, and best practices in both formative and summative assessment will be modeled at each session.As a result of the incorporation of disciplinary specific, critical thinking skills brought about by the design of The C3 Framework, this curriculum and accompanying professional development network are the best tools to assist 3rd and 4th grade social studies teachers in developing inquiry-based instructional units.
